   Free Tutoring
Wednesdays, 5-7pm

Held each Wednesday, Advent Hope offers free tutoring in a variety of subjects to children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. Subjects include: Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Spanish, Computers, Reading, Art... and more! Tutoring sessions take place at Church of the Advent Hope: 111 East 87th Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues, New York, NY 10128.    BOOST
Wednesdays, 7-8:15pm

Join us for BOOST, a lively discussion that takes place each Wednesday evening at 7 - 8:15PM. We sing, we share, we pray for each other in our community of believers. Join us for a mid-week BOOST.


   Christianity 101: An Introduction to the Central Claims of Christianity
Fridays, 7:30pm

Each Friday we’ll learn about a central claim of Christianity. Even if you’ve been a Christian for a good portion of your life, this is a wonderful way to re-acquaint yourself with the foundations of Christianity. Join us on Fridays at 7:30pm.


   Choir Rehearsal
Saturdays, 2:30pm

Please join us in the sanctuary for choir rehearsal. Anyone is welcome to join!


   Amsterdam Ave Fall Fair
Sunday, October 12

On Sunday October 12th Church of the Advent Hope will be participating in the Amsterdam Street Fair. We would like to provide free blood pressure screens, advertise our tutoring program, hand out health literature, and get to know our community more. In order to make this event successful we will need healthcare professionals and volunteers to help set up and man the booth. Please contact Ana Angeles at ananangeles@yahoo.com to express interest in participating.

   Light the Night Walk
Thursday, October 16

Join team Advent Hope in our Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to raise funds and bring hope to thousands of individuals battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost. The Departments of Community Service and Family Ministries have teamed up to raise awareness and support for LLS. The walk will take place on Thursday, October 16th, 2008. The schedule is as follows: 5:30 pm Check-in; 6:15 pm Remembrance Ceremony; 6:45 pm Remembrance Ceremony; and at 7:00 pm the Walk starts.    Clothing Drive
Oct 18 - Nov 1

Beginning next Sabbath, October 18 through Sabbath, November 1, we will be collecting new and gently used adult and children's clothing, as well as towels and new, unopened personal hygiene items such as soap and toothpaste. These items will be sent to the Philippines as part of the relief efforts to benefit those who were affected by the recent typhoon and who cope with extreme poverty as part of their everyday existence.    Health Awareness Seminars
Saturday, October 18 & 25, 3pm

In October Health Ministry is planning two presentations:
- October 18: Dr. Rafael A. Feliz, "Grieving and Letting Go." The presentation will cover a detailed explanation on the five steps a person goes through after the loss of a loved one.
- October 25: Dr. Miraby Batra, "High Blood Pressure As a Silent Killer." There will be a blood pressure screening after the presentation.


   Donations Needed for Blood & Platelets

Aquila Goldbourne is eleven years old and currently a patient at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Her treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukemia requires regular blood and platelet transfusions. Aquila and her family would deeply appreciate your donation of blood and/or platelets and hopes you will ask others you know to donate.    Advent Hope Basketball

Advent Hope is looking for a few good hoopsters. There are a number of winter leagues in the area, including the Northeastern Conference Basketball League, which fields teams from over twenty Adventist churches across the city. If you're interested in playing basketball for an Advent Hope team this winter, please see Tony Sebro.
