Church of the Advent Hope exists to live in loving relationship with God and one another. Central to our community is the table, where we gather to share a meal with one another and our neighbors.
WHY THIS CAMPAIGN MATTERS
The Kitchen Renovation Project will enable us to cultivate community through shared meals (Acts 2), serve our neighbors (community meals, cooking classes, etc.), and earn rental income to sustain our ministry.
Why $800,000?
We originally hoped that a more modest upgrade would be sufficient; but after thoroughly evaluating our building, it became apparent that we would need to broaden the scope of the project in order to create a safe and sustainable resource.
The following needed upgrades, in addition to inflation, increased the final cost projection to $793,420:
New storage area and stairs
Electrical upgrade to 400 amps
Kitchen expansion by 200 SF
Commercial kitchen upgrades (HVAC, Ansul Kitchen System, plumbing, etc.)
Additional commercial kitchen appliances/equipment
Additional insurance, general conditions, and profit due to revised scope
Additional architectural, engineering, and construction admin services
Additional permitting costs and inspections
IT consultant and related repairs for damages during demolition and existing needed IT improvements

Before construction
Our kitchen faced several pressing condition issues, including damaged shelving and outdated appliances. The tight confines of the old configuration and sub-standard appliances left volunteers with extremely limited working space, hindering their ability to prepare meals safely on a large-scale basis.
The kitchen renovation was urgently needed to ensure the safety of the space for our volunteers and to expand our current community service initiatives.
TRANSFORMATION
Advent Hope is blessed to have a volunteer-driven building team consulting on this project that consists of professionals in commercial real estate, retail development, and architecture who compiled a detailed plan for the kitchen renovation and expansion.

GOALS
Cultivate community
We will host Sabbath Fellowship Meals for regular worship participants and guests.
Promote Public Health
We will position the kitchen as an essential resource for cooking classes and health seminars featuring plant-based cuisine. And we will prioritize serving our neighbors who lack access to nutritious food and nutrition support services.
Sustain Ministry
Our commercial kitchen will be rented out when we are not using it to help underwrite the costs of holistic ministry here in New York City.
